Hayward Baker began a modest, self-named construction company in 1946 that focused on specialty plumbing and sewage in the San Francisco Bay area of California. In 1972, his son, Wallace Hayward Baker, began leading the company with the creative vision of transforming it into a premier specialty contractor.
Over the decades, Hayward Baker expanded geographically and expanded its solution offerings. Through growth and acquisition, Hayward Baker became a leading geotechnical specialty contractor. For 17 years in a row, Engineering News Record (ENR) ranked Hayward Baker the #1 Excavation and Foundation firm in its Top 600 list.
